16: Jesus Wasn’t into Religion

What was Jesus doing with his life? Well, lots, but Jesus was definitely NOT setting up a religion. Amy and Kirk think Jesus was doing something and wanted something very different than what many churches promote. Jesus wasn’t about rule following, manipulation, belief lists, or control. He was about unconditional LOVE and complete acceptance. Take a listen and see if you agree! Be careful, though, you might change your mind about Jesus-stuff.

THREE MINUTE NERDERY:

Easter Jesus Gonna Start Big Problems

This is day 2 of a 12 day series leading up to Good Friday!

Jesus walked into a very tense situation at Roman occupied Jerusalem. The Jewish people were tense, the Romans were tense, there was a military base in Jerusalem, and the Jewish people wanted some justice! What would Jesus do? Hmmmm…Stay tuned!!

THREE MINUTE NERDERY:

Easter Jesus’ Trouble Making is the Reason for  the Season

This is day 1 of a 12 day series leading up to Good Friday!

Easter is a time for bunnies and eggs and pastel and food and stuff, but Jesus’ trouble-making is the real reason for the season. Sure, the cross is about forgiveness of sin, but that isn’t all it’s about. Jesus jumped right into the political, religious, social, and economic mess of the time to make an even LARGER point. What was that point? Listen to Kirk and see what you think!

15: Jesus in The House!

Amy and Kirk talk about how Jesus came into the world differently than you might think. The nativity scenes at Christmas are precious and touchy and feely, and Hallmark-ish, and there’s some of that in Jesus’ coming. But Amy and Kirk talk about the grittiness and real-ness, and deeper meaning of Jesus’ coming to earth.

Amy wants to Kirk to get on with it.

Also, Amy’s mic didn’t work or something, so the sound sucks. Our tech guy is terrible at his job.

14: Tamar  is More Righteous

The book of Genesis portrays the woman Tamar as more righteous (and intelligent and resourceful) than all the men around her. And it might shock you why! Amy and Kirk show how this ancient story is a great example of how to look at the Old Testament, how the Old Testament ties to the story of Jesus, and how your view of the Old Testament writers’ view of women may not always be completely correct. Be ready to have your view of the Old Testament challenged! Be ready to have your thinking changed!

13: THIS is Your God!

Kirk discusses what happens after The Problem shows up in the Bible. God’s creation project is NOT dead, and he still has a plan and purpose. The story goes on with Abram, who is called to GO, not perfectly, not without mistakes, not with the “right” doctrine, but just as best he can. God gives purpose with compassion and understanding! NOT the message of many churches today, unfortunately.

Sorry, no Amy in this one, but you should listen anyway!

12: Creation Project Reboot

11: What Happened in Genesis 3

Amy and Kirk talk about what happened in Genesis 3 and why that matters to you. Death, destruction, and desolation exist because of it, but also relationship problems. Amy is a little too eager to tell everyone about Kirk and Amy’s relationship issues.

Amy lays down what is really going on with gender, unity, and diversity. TOO MANY churches start with what happened in Genesis 3, but Amy and Kirk put what happened in Genesis 3 in context of the whole story of God’s purpose for your life!

Also, it ought be stated, the “Hebrew expert” Kirk gave Amy the wrong pronunciation of “ezer”, so if you’re a Hebrew pronunciation snob don’t hate on her, hate on Kirk, nkay?

Bible References
Genesis1:1-2:God made the chaos into order. Genesis 1 is God arranging and creating so He could dwell in His creation with His creation.

Genesis 1:4, 10, 12, 18, 21, 25, and 31: Eden was not perfect, but exactly how God wanted it for now.

Genesis 1:26-28: God created humans in His image. To image Him out to the creation. To be God for God. To do His work, to reflect His character, to rule like He would. THIS was God’s original intention for all humans!

Genesis 2:15: God had a greater vision in mind for creation. To guard and keep means growth and development.

Genesis 2:18-20: woman is created as an ezer for man.

We see what that vision was at the end of the Bible in Revelation 21&22. The beginning and end.

Examples of ‘ezer’ in the Bible: Deuteronomy 33:26; Ezekiel 12:14; Isaiah 30:5; Psalm 20:2; 33:20; 70:5; 89:19; 115:9-11; 121:2; 124:8; 146:5

10: You Look Like God

Amy and Kirk discuss how the bible starts off by saying you were created to look like God! Not physically, but in your character. To “be God for God”, to reflect God in your character, to be his image bearer to people and creation around you (spoiler! In Hebrew ‘image’ = ‘idol’). What does looking like God mean? What does THAT look like? What does it mean for you? Are you a mindless clone? Are you a powerful deity? Listen and find out!

7: Pushed Aside and Marginalized in the Church

Being pushed aside and marginalized at church is all too common for many Christians. But it happens in many other groups besides churches, to many of us, whether or not we are Christian. It is disorienting, frustrating, and invalidating.

Many who are pushed aside and marginalized WANT to help their group be better but are in a group that resists and fears change. Amy and Kirk share from their own experiences, and hopefully they help you!

6: The Disregarded and Ignored at Church

Disregarded people have great stuff to offer but are too often, well, disregarded by those in power, for one reason or another. Amy and Kirk talk about WHY that happens, and WHAT the hurtful and damaging effects are of being disregarded, and questions to ask yourself  about any organization you are a part of.

5: You’re (Not) Welcome (Here)
